Laboratory Services
Summary
Continental Analytical Services,
Inc. provides analytical testing services to public
water systems in support of compliance with regulatory
requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act, including
the Phases II and V Chemical Rule, Disinfectants and
Disinfection Byproduct Rule, and the Enhanced Surface
Water Treatment Rule.
The Phases II and V Chemical Rule
established monitoring frequencies for each type of
public water system as well as specific analytical methods
and maximum contaminant levels for 61 contaminants.
Continental provides certified analyses of all inorganic
compounds (IOCs); volatile organic compounds (VOCs)
and most synthetic organic compounds (SOCs) covered
by this rule.
The Disinfectants and Disinfection
Byproduct Rule established maximum contaminant level
goals and maximum contaminant levels for disinfectant
byproducts including trihalomethanes and haloacetic
acids. Continental’s experience and expertise
with these analyses has been beneficial to a large number
of water systems since the rule’s inception.
The Enhanced Surface Water Treatment
Rule, in tandem with the Disinfectants/Disinfection
Byproducts Rule establishes treatment criteria based
on TOC removal and enhanced coagulation and enhanced
softening alternative performance criteria. Continental
has helped many water systems monitor source and finished
water TOC, source water alkalinity and source and finished
water Specific Ultraviolet Absorbency (SUVA) in support
of this rule.
Continental is NELAP accredited
and holds certifications in Kansas and numerous other
states.
Continental participates
in the American Council of Independent Laboratories
Seal of Excellence program. This prestigious program
recognizes laboratories that excel in terms of ethics,
data integrity, and customer service. Continental is
proud to be the only laboratory in the United States
to be awarded the Seal of Excellence each year since
the program’s inception in 1997.
